Rourkela Institute of Technology ( RIT ), the first professional institute of its kind in western Orissa and situated near the confluence of river Sankha and Koel adjoining the industrial city of Rourkela bordering Orissa and Jharkhand enjoys the reputation of providing quality education in both Technical and management courses for more than two decade since its formation in the mid eighties of the depatarted century. It was established in the year 1984 under the Sponsorship of Rourkela Technical Education Society (RTES) duly registrerd under society registration act 1860.

As such it has become the favourite destination of aspiring students who are interested to equip themselves with professional qualification and acquire sufficient expertise in order to successfully complete in the job market and ensure a bright career. At the institute, no efforts are spared to take individual and personal care of the students at every step till their goals are realized. The institute has been accredited with ISO 9001:2000 certification for excellence in teaching and facilities.

The institution that in the year 1984 started with three core engineering branches - Civil, Electrical and Mechanical has added three more engineering branches, namely, Matallurgy, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication and Post-Graduation branch of MCA & MBA.
